This pair of models represents the fighting positions for twin-gun 40mm Bofors cannon mounts, called "tubs", fit to many Fletcher-class destroyers circa mid-World War Two. This significant and very conspicuous addition was made to improve the anti-aircraft capability of Fletcher-class destroyers.
These two tubs were positioned alongside the aft funnel. The portion of the tubs' deck that extends outwards from the central deckhouse below is included as an aid to position the parts and to provide strength to the splinter shields. Trim the deck, if necessary, for best fit to your Fletcher-class destroyer model.
Notice. These models are designed from official US Navy builder's drawings to represent the real shape and size of the tubs and the clipping room compartments below them. The models are not scaled to precisely fit any specific plastic or resin kit. Depending on which plastic or resin kit you own, some adjustment to your plastic or resin kit's parts, other aftermarket parts such as photo-etch or resin mounts, or these 3D-printed tubs, may be necessary for best fit.
