2.  You do NOT need a PayPal account to use your credit card.  To use your credit or debit card, check out as if you were using PayPal by clicking the yellow "checkout with PayPal" icon.  PayPal will accept and securely process your credit or debit card.  We accept Venmo, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, PayPal and PayPal Credit.


3.  Shipping to United Kingdom addresses has resumed.

4.  Production delays: most orders, but not all, are being printed and shipped within 1 week of ordering.  Please allow 2 weeks for production plus delivery.  Heavy demand, orders for very large models, and large orders for many models are causing production delays.  Please be advised that we have a limited production capacity and 3D-printing is a very slow process. 

5.  Covid 19-related shipping delays: expect Covid 19-related shipping delays and incorrect tracking status.

  • Covid 19 has badly affected postal operations world wide.  Even if your package is moving normally through the postal system, tracking information may stop or be wrong, incomplete, or nonexistent.

  • US customers, please allow up to 2 weeks for delivery.

  • International customers, please allow 6 weeks for delivery and customs inspection.  Tracking may pause while your models are held for inspection by customs officials in your country.

6.  Temporary closures: because we often receive orders for more models than we can make in a timely manner, we will occasionally stop accepting new orders for models made in gray resin for a few days.  Temporary closures allow us to catch up on existing orders.  But you can continue to order nameplates (click here) and other Model Monkey products made by Shapeways (click here).  You can also continue to add products to your cart and add products to your wish list.

During our temporarily closures, we will continue to print and ship existing orders.


Payment and Shipping frequently asked questions.

How do I pay?  We accept PayPal, PayPal Credit, Venmo, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.  You do NOT need a PayPal account to use your credit card. To use your credit or debit card, check out as if you were using PayPal by clicking the yellow "checkout with PayPal" icon.  PayPal will accept and securely process your credit or debit card.

If paying with PayPal, your order will be shipped to your PayPal mailing address.

Please ensure your PayPal mailing address is correct before ordering.

When do I pay?  You will be charged when you place your order.

Do I have to pay tax? Model Monkey does not collect any tax for models sent to addresses outside North Carolina, USA.*  

  • North Carolina, USA addresses: 7.25% sales tax collected at checkout.

  • International addresses: may be subject to your country's taxes, tariffs, import duties and other fees.  See the "International Shipping" section below for more information.


When is my model made?  Models are "made-to-order". This means your models are 3D-printed after you place your order.  We carry no stock.  Production time varies according to workload.  Please allow up to 2 weeks for us to make your models.  Most models are made within 1 week of you placing your order.  But orders for many models or large models, such as 1/200 scale Titanic funnels and 1/96 scale turrets, take longer to make causing delays.  We make models on a first-come, first-served basis.  3D-printing is a very slow process.  Each model typically takes several hours to print.  Large models can take an entire day to print.


When is my model shipped?  The next business day after 3D-printing is complete.  When we buy postage and create the shipping label, you will receive an automated email notification in English stating that your models have been shipped.  The message will include a tracking number.  We deliver your models to the local post office the same day the shipping label is created.  The shipping label creation date is the actual mailing date.


How is my model shipped?  Via the United States Postal Service (USPS).  USPS is closed on Saturday afternoons, Sundays and the following 2021 US Federal holidays.  There is no shipping on these days.

  • Monday, October 11 (Columbus Day)

Will you combine shipping?  Yes.  Upon request, we can combine shipping for multiple orders that have not yet been shipped.  If you do not request combined shipping, we will assume you want us to ship your orders separately.

From where is my model shipped? 

Gray resin models are printed by Model Monkey with our own 3D printers and shipped from the Model Monkey workshop in North Carolina, USA.

White acrylic plastic models, nylon models, metal nameplates, and very large models too big for our own 3D printers are sold and shipped by a separate company called "Shapeways".  Shapeways ships from their factories in New York, USA or Eindhoven, Netherlands.  Normally, your Shapeways-printed model will be printed in the Shapeways factory that is closest to you and shipped to you from that factory.  Shapeways may use shipping carriers other than USPS.  When you buy Model Monkey-designed products from Shapeways, you are actually buying the model from Shapeways, not from Model Monkey.  Models and nameplates printed and shipped by Shapeways may be subject to sales tax, VAT, GST or other taxes and fees.  For models bought from Shapeways, please contact Shapeways customer service (click here) for Shapeways' printing, tax and shipping questions.

How much does shipping cost?

Domestic US and US Territories

(Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Northern Marianas, etc.)

US Military (APO and FPO) and Diplomatic (DPO) addresses

  • USPS First-Class Package insured:

    • orders up to $100 :  $8 USD.

    • orders from $101 to $200:  $9 USD.

    • orders from $201 to $300:  $10 USD.

    • orders over $300 USD:  free shipping.

    • Delivery time: please allow 2 weeks for production plus 8 business days for delivery.  Large orders, delivery to US Territories, APO, FPO and DPO may take longer.  Expect Covid 19 related delays.

  • USPS Priority Mail insured:

    • orders up to $100:  $12 USD.

    • orders from $101 to $200:  $13 USD.

    • orders from $201 to $300:  $14 USD.

    • orders over $300 USD:  $15 USD.

    • Delivery time: please allow 2 weeks for production plus 1-3 business days for delivery.  Large orders, delivery to US Territories, APO, FPO and DPO may take longer.  Expect Covid 19 related delays.

  • Tracking information:  yes.

  • Sales tax:  7.25% is collected at checkout for models shipped to North Carolina, USA addresses.* 

  • APO, FPO, DPO AE: choose New York as your shipping state at checkout.

  • APO, FPO, DPO AP: choose California as your shipping state at checkout.

International Shipping - USPS First-Class International Package

  • Orders over $300 USD:  free shipping.

  • Australia, Brazil, China, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea:  $19 USD.

  • Canada:  $15 USD.

  • All other locations:  $17 USD.

  • Insurance:  not available.

  • Tracking information:  to many, but not all locations.  Customers may experience incorrect, stopped or nonexistent tracking information.  Model Monkey cannot resolve tracking disruption.

    • USPS tracking service to some locations may stop once the package departs the USA.

    • Tracking information will pause while your package is being held for inspection by customs officials in your country.  Tracking may resume after customs officials release your models for delivery. 

    • Customers in Norway, Sweden and Finland report that tracking information will stop when models arrive in those countries and will not resume.

  • Delivery time: please allow 2 weeks for production plus 6 weeks for delivery.  Large orders may take longer.  Expect Covid 19-related delays.

  • Taxes, tariffs and import duties:  Model Monkey does not collect any taxes or fees on behalf of a foreign government.  You, the customer, must pay any taxes, duties or fees required by your country to your country's officials. Customs duties and import taxes for scale models vary by location and change without notice. Contact customs officials in your country to estimate the cost of any taxes, duties or fees.  Use HS Code 950320 for "scale models". 

    • Australian and Kiwi customers may be required to pay "GST" (Goods and Services Tax)  upon receipt.

    • European customers may be required to pay "VAT" (Value-added Tax) upon receipt.

    • UK customers may be required to pay upon receipt:

    • Other international customers may be required to pay customs duty and other fees upon receipt.

  • Customs declaration label:

    • The customs declaration label on your package will read "Scale models" and HS code 950320.

    • The actual cost of the models will be stated on the customs declaration label.  Requests to state a false, lower cost will not be honored.  Falsifying a customs label is a serious crime here in the US, punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment, a $10,000 fine, and forfeiture of our business which is also our home (see 13 United States Code § 305 - unlawful export information activities).

  • International shipping by courier such as UPS, FedEx or DHL is not offered as a shipping option at checkout.  For those customers who require shipping by courier, we can ship by UPS or FedEx.  Our location is not served by DHL.  Please be advised that international shipping by courier is extremely expensive, normally more than $100 USD to most locationsTo estimate your cost, go to (click here) or (click here)The origination address is:

Select a 6" x 6" x 6" cardboard box (15.25 cm x 15.25 cm x 15.25 cm) weighing 0.5 pounds (0.25 kg) for a typical package.  If the estimated shipping cost is within your budget, please contact Model Monkey (click here) to request FedEx or UPS international shipping before making your order. 

We may not be able to ship to some locations.

USPS may refuse to accept packages addressed to some locations.  If USPS refuses to accept your package, we will issue you a refund.


Covid 19 notice: some countries refuse to accept packages shipped from the USA.  If the postal service or customs officials in your country return your models to us, we will refund the cost of the models to you, but not the shipping cost.  The shipping cost is not recoverable because we paid the shipping cost to the shipping carrier.  Before ordering, please contact your local postal service and ask if a package from the USA can be delivered to you.

Is tracking information provided?  Yes, to most locations.  The US Postal Service is reporting limited employee availability due to Covid 19.  Although USPS receives your package the same day the shipping label is created, USPS employees may not be available to scan your package into the USPS tracking system for another day or two.  Until your package is scanned into the USPS tracking system, tracking information status will erroneously read "Pre-Shipment...Shipping Label Created, USPS Awaiting Item".  This status is not accurate.  Accurate tracking status normally begins after the package is scanned at USPS.

After you receive a tracking number, you can request automated USPS tracking updates by text or emailSign up for automated tracking updates on the "USPS Tracking" webpage for your package under the "Text & Email Updates" drop-down menu.


Will Model Monkey replace models damaged during shipping?  If your model arrives damaged, please contact us by email within 1 week of delivery. 

  • Please send us photos of the damaged model and the shipping box. 

  • For insured shipments, we will file a claim for damage with the US Postal Service and forward your photos to USPS for examination.  USPS may require from you further proof of damage or loss of contents.  You must retain any damaged item in the condition you received it, packaging and all other contents until the claim is resolved.  USPS may require you to bring the item, packaging, and all contents to a post office for inspection.

I think my models have been lost in transit.  Can you help?  We can submit a search request with USPS on your behalf.  USPS will provide you search status updates via email.

Has anyone at Model Monkey tested positive for Covid-19?  Fortunately, no.  Everyone at Model Monkey is fully vaccinated against Covid-19.


* Tax information: 

  • US customers: under United States Federal law, Model Monkey LLC qualifies as a home-based, small business that does not meet the sales threshold established by the US Supreme Court's 2017 South Dakota v Wayfair decision.  Therefore, Model Monkey LLC is not required to collect, and does not collect, sales tax for models shipped to US addresses outside North Carolina, USA.  Under North Carolina state law, Model Model LLC is required to collect sales tax for models shipped to North Carolina addresses.

  • European customers: Model Monkey LLC is not authorized to collect VAT by any European tax authority.

  • Australian and Kiwi customers: Model Monkey LLC does not meet Australia's or New Zealand's GST sales thresholds, therefore we do not collect Australia or New Zealand GST.
