This model represents the 3-bladed center propeller fit to RMS Titanic and also fit for a time to sistership RMS Olympic.
 
Harland & Wolff construction records explicitly documented that Titanic was built with an enlarged, three-bladed center propeller (17 feet in diameter) to test for greater efficiency.
 
For decades, it was simply assumed Titanic had the same four-bladed center propeller as her sister ship, Olympic. This historical consensus changed in 2007 when maritime historian Mark Chirnside discovered an original Harland & Wolff engineering notebook detailing Titanic's true specifications (see scan of the page attached). This document confirms Titanic was built with a 3-bladed center propeller of 17'-0" in diameter and with a blade pitch of 14'-0".
 
Olympic was originally built with a 4-bladed center propeller but was refitted with the enlarged three-bladed screw during her major 1912–1913 overhaul to test for better performance and to continue gathering performance data after Titanic's loss. The test was not considered successful and she reverted to a 4-bladed center screw after World War One.
 
Sistership HMHS Britannic was fitted with a 4-blade center propeller which still exists on the wreck.
