- Trumpeter 1/24 scale P-51B/C Mustang / Mustang Mk.III
- Trumpeter 1/24 scale P-51D Mustang / Mustang Mk.IV
This two-part set represents the exhausts of the Merlin-powered P-51 Mustang fighter of World War Two and later, specifically the P-51B, P-51C, P-51D and P-51K. Shrouds are not included.
This set of exhausts is specifically sized to better fit the Trumpeter kits' smaller-than-scale and incorrectly shaped cowling exhaust slots. Some adjustment to your Trumpeter kit's cowling parts will be needed for best fit. Compared to scans of original North American Aviation blueprints, the Trumpeter kit's slots' ends of are too rounded. They will need to be enlarged for these 3D-printed exhausts to fit.
These parts are an original 3D design based on authoritative 2D references and measurements made from a surviving Packard-built V-1650-7 Merlin engine, the common powerplant of the P-51D Mustang (Mustang Mk.IV). References included scans of original North American Aviation blueprints available through AirCorpsLibrary.com. The models are not 3D-printed copies of any plastic or resin kit's parts. Therefore, they may be sized, shaped and detailed differently than the parts in your kit.
This set is intended for models of P-51 Mustangs operating with exhaust shrouds removed. The set can also be adapted for some other Merlin-powered aircraft such as the Curtis P-40F.
A set of exhausts with shrouds is available separately.
These parts are left- and right-handed. When installing your parts, position them so the side with the wider-spaced nuts is down.
Caution is recommended when cutting away the attachment sprue and when handling these parts. The exhausts are very thin.
