Scale: 1/32

Recommended to help build a late-war, radar-equipped Beaufighter from:

  • Revell 1/32 scale Bristol Beaufighter Mk.IF
  • Revell/Lodela 1/32 scale Bristol Beaufighter
  • and more!

The model represents the dielectric nose-mounted "thimble" radome fit to some late-production Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VIF and Mk.X aircraft equipped with Airborne Interception (AI) Radar Mk.VIII.   Aircraft fit with the thimble radome participated in combat operations during World War Two, the Greek Civil War (1946), and the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960).

Radome-equipped Beaufighters were operational beginning in 1943 until Beaufighters were withdrawn from service about 1960.  Thimble radome-equipped Beaufighters were operated by the Royal Air Force, commonwealth air forces, US Army Air Force, and post-war by France and Turkey.   Thimble radome-equipped Beaufighters may also have been operated by Portugal.  Although some Beaufighters were also operated by Israel and the Dominican Republic, it is not clear whether any of those aircraft were fit with thimble radomes.

Features:

  • shape and size are based on scans of original Bristol factory drawings.
  • right side (starboard) access hatch with fastener detail.
  • small alignment aide notch - identifies the top of the model.  Position the notch up when attaching the radome to the nose of your Beaufighter model.

Some adjustment of your Revell Beaufighter kit's parts may be needed for best fit.

Cyanoacrylate (CA, "superglue") or epoxy is recommended to attach this acrylic resin model to your Revell kit's polystyrene parts.  Liquid cements such as Tamiya Extra Thin or Testors liquid cements will not work with 3D-printed acrylic plastic.
