  • Revell/Lodela 1/32 scale Bristol Beaufighter
  • and more!

This accurately scaled and detailed model represents the World War 2-era British 18-inch Mk.XV torpedo.  The Mk.XV was the standard airborne torpedo used by British and Commonwealth forces in the latter half of the war.

Commonly launched from Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI and Mk.X maritime strike aircraft as well as motor torpedo boats, the Mk.XV was a "wet-heater"-type torpedo, 17 feet 2.7 inches (525.1 cm) in length, 17.69 inches (44.9 cm) in diameter, delivering 545 pounds (247 kg) of Torpex explosive to a range of 2500 yards (2286 meters) at 40 knots.  For use by motor torpedo boats, the speed was set to 33 knots increasing effective range to 3200 yards (2926 meters).

Features:

  • scaled dimensions match tables and drawings appearing in "Naval Weapons of World War Two" by John Campbell
  •  parts separation matches the real torpedo section joints - no need to fill or hide seams
  • detailed fins and propellers (propellers are fixed and do not spin)
  • accurately shaped propeller blades with correct twist and contra-rotating orientation
  • accurately sized, shaped and positioned bolt recesses
  • accurately sized and positioned mounting lug plate with 5 boltheads
  • all parts except the warhead section are keyed to aid in alignment during assembly

The propeller blades are thin and relatively fragile.  Carefully cut and remove the supporting sprues.

Cyanoacrylate (CA, "superglue") or epoxy is recommended.  Liquid cements such as Tamiya Extra Thin or Testors liquid cements will not work with 3D-printed acrylic plastic.
