This model represents the large dome fit to the aft side of the islands of modernized Essex-class aircraft carriers and Tarawa-class and Wasp-class amphibious assault ships.  The dome protected an AN/SPN-35 radar antenna used as an aid to aircraft approach and landing.
 
If purchasing a Model Monkey 1/700 scale Essex-class SCB island, you do not need this model.  A dome is included with your Essex-class SCB island.  This model is offered here as a spare.
