This model represents the World War Two-era K-14 (USAAF) / Mk.18 (USN, USMC) gyroscopic gunsight.

From August, 1944, the K-14 gunsight was fit to many US Army Air Force fighter aircraft such as the North American P-51 Mustang and Republic P-47 Thunderbolt.  It was known as the Mk.18 gunsight in US Navy and US Marine Corps service, fit to the Grumman F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair.

The K-14 / Mk.18 was very advanced for its day, having separate projectors and displays for air and ground attacks.  Compared to the earlier N-3 gunsight, It was a very large instrument, effectively two gunsights within a single enclosure.

To fit the large gunsight to the P-51 Mustang in a comfortable postion for the pilot, a portion of the instrument panel coaming was often cut out creating a recess for the gunsight (see photos in carousel).

This model does not include the clear reflective plate of the real gunsight.
