This model represents the standard 26.5" tall windlass fit to many World War Two-era US Navy destroyers, destroyer escorts, USCG cutters and various auxiliaries.  The windlass was an essential device for handling heavy lines and anchor chains.  The windlass is composed of an upper capstan for lines and lower wildcat for anchor chains.  The windlass is fixed to a base plate with 7 accurately sized and located bolt-heads on washers.  On this model, the windlass cannot turn.
