Scale: 1/32

Recommended for:

  • Revell 1/32 scale P-51D-5 Mustang
  • can be adapted to fit other 1/32 scale P-51B through P-51K Mustang models
  • suitable for other Packard-built Merlin-powered aircraft such as the P-40F
  • and more!

This two-part set represents the exhausts of the Packard V-1650 Merlin-powered P-51 Mustang fighter of World War Two and later, specifically the P-51B, P-51C, P-51D and P-51K.  The V-1650 was a Rolls Royce Merlin engine license-built in the United States by Packard Motor Car Company.

Packard-built Merlins were also fit to the P-51H Mustang, P-63 King Cobra, and P-40F Warhawk.  Packard-built Merlins were fit to many de Havilland Mosquito and Avro Lancaster aircraft built in Canada.

These parts are an original 3D design based on authoritative 2D references and measurements made from a surviving Packard-bult V-1650-7 Merlin engine and scans of original North American Aviation blueprints available through AirCorpsLibrary.com. The Packard V-1650-7 was the common powerplant of the P-51D and P-51K Mustang (Mustang Mk.IV and CA-18 Mk.21).

Shrouds are not included with this set.  This set is intended for models of P-51 Mustangs operating with exhaust shrouds removed.  A set of exhausts with shrouds is available separately (click here).

The set is optimized to fit the new-tool Revell 1/32 scale P-51D-5 and P-51D-15 kits as direct replacements for the kits' solid exhaust parts but can be adapted for other 1/32 scale P-51 model kits.

The models are not 3D-printed copies of any plastic or resin kit's parts.  Therefore, they may be sized, shaped and detailed differently than the parts in your kit.  Depending on which kit you have, some adjustment to your kit's parts may be needed for best fit.

Notice for new-tool Revell P-51D-5 kit modelers: these 3D-printed parts are best suited for Mustangs with exhaust shrouds removed, as was common with real P-51 Mustangs in the field.  Exhausts with shrouds are available separately.

These parts are left- and right-handed.  When installing your parts, position them so the side with the wider-spaced nuts is down.

Caution is recommended when cutting away the attachment sprue and when handling these parts.  The exhausts are very thin.

These parts are made of acrylic plastic.  Acrylic plastic does not behave like injection-molded polystyrene plastic or other resins.  Glues for polystyrene plastic, like "Testors Liquid Cement" or tube cement, will not work with acrylic plastic.  Cyanoacrylate (CA) "super glue" is recommended.
