Scale: 1/96   (1/8 inch = 1 foot)

Includes 1 turret.  Barrels are available separately (click here).

This model turret (more properly called a  "gunhouse") represents the enormous main battery of battleships USS North Carolina BB-55 and USS Washington BB-56.

This model was designed to accurately represent features of the real turret based on original builder's blueprints and measurements made of an actual turret on USS North Carolina.  It is not a 3D-printed copy of any card, plastic or resin kit's parts and therefore may be shaped and sized differently than those parts.

Features:

  • scaled from scans of original builder's blueprints.  Dimensions and details confirmed by measurements taken from actual gunhouses on USS North Carolina BB-55 preserved as a museum ship at Wilmington, North Carolina
  • open armored rangefinder viewport shutters
  • rangefinders with telescopic sights visible through the open shutters of the armored covers
  • rooftop screwheads accurately sized, numbered and located
  • armored rangefinder hexhead bolt and screw details
  • detailed rooftop periscopes
  • accurately sized and shaped ventilation trunks
  • detailed turret-bottom crew access hatch, accurately offset slightly to the left

Notice: this model is available in either "Smooth Fine Detail Plastic", an acrylic plastic, or  "White Natural Versatile Plastic", a kind of nylon.  White Natural Versatile Plastic is waterproof and strong, a good choice for Radio Control models and Combat RC models where durability is important.

Modelers find White Natural Versatile Plastic (nylon)  unsatisfactory for static display models where surface smoothness and fine detail are important.

Sharp edges of models printed in white strong and versatile plastic appear less defined and more rounded than those of models printed in Smooth Fine Detail acrylic plastic.  Being nylon, "White Natural Versatile Plastic" is generally not sandable and fewer types of paint and glue will adhere to it.  Care is recommended in choosing a paint that will adhere to, and fully cure upon, nylon.  Google "glue for nylon", "paint for nylon" and "primer for nylon" to find several good choices.

Customers report that "White Natural Versatile Plastic" will have noticeable striations (print lines).  To help smooth "White Natural Versatile Plastic" surfaces, apply thin layers of primer meant specifically for nylon.  Allow the primer to harden. Then smooth the hardened primer.
